Variable speed pump and mechanical timer

i'm planning to buy INTELLIFLO VS 3050. my old pump - 3/4 Hp Pentair WhisperFlo is dying so i need to do it quick not so long time ago i got Jandy AquaPure Chlorine Generator and i connected to a timer - Intermatic T104. that was easy - the same wiring like pump - run together. now my question is - can i use the same wiring to my new pump like to the old one? i don't want spend another few hundredths $ for new electric timer. you said "Most variable speed pumps are designed to be started and stopped by a mechanical timer" - but the MOST - what about INTELLIFLO VS 3050?

Why not just replace the motor or get a 2 speed? Save some money and spend it on pool toys.

i'm not saying not - my goal is:
1. quiet pump!!! - current one is louder than grass mover
2. save $$$ on electric bills

A two speed is both quiet and saves $$$ and in most cases it will have a lower lifetime cost than a VS.

But if you are going to go with a VS, I would get a VS 011018 instead of a 3050. The 18 has a built in timer and costs about the same as a 3050.
