Hayward H250DFP versus 1.5" piping

I purchased my home that came with a rectangular 18x36 pool over a year ago.

Last year I was lucky if I swam in the pool 16 days, because the temperature rarely went over 80 degrees.

I went to my local pool store and Purchased a Hayward H250FDP heater. Installation seems very straightforward on the unit, but I did run into one snag. The inlet and outlets to the heater are set for 2" to 2 1/2" piping, whereas all of my pool piping is 1 1/2 inch. Granted, my first though is that I could just get a reducing union to bring it down to 1 1/2", but when looking over the manual, it says something along the lines of "there should be nothing installed that would restrict the flow of water from the heater to the pool"...

Will I be asking for trouble if I attempt to use the heater with my existing piping?

Thanks!
