Chemical levels in the winter

There are three different situations with slightly different rules.

If you keep the pool open through the winter then you need to check every two or three days when the water is around 50, and perhaps once a week when the water is around 40. If you see something changing dramatically, test more often, but that is unusual.

If the pool is closed and you had fresh plaster applied in the later summer or fall then it is a good idea to test the water about once a month.

If the pool is closed and you don't have fresh plaster then there is no need to test the water until spring opening.
