Pump to Filter Connections

So my cartridge filter gave up the ghost last week and I've bought a DE filter (Hayward DE6020) to replace it with, the issue I'm having is that the backwash valve coupling has a threaded connection amd I need to attach plain old PVC pipe to it.
Is this normal, do I need a special connection kit or something?

Yeah that looks like it might work, would the local big box stores carry this?

yeah it's a standard fitting. just use a little liquid thread sealant on the threaded side of the connection
