Here is the question. Will the pool heat up faster with the cover (solar) on during the day, or off? I understand leaving it on for the night is best, just curious if the cover will hinder the sunlight from heating the water.

It really depends on your evaporation rate. With the cover off, you get more sunlight, which warms the pool, and more evaporation, which cools the pool. In comparatively warm dry windy conditions the evaporation rate can be significant and cool the pool more than the sunlight helps. When it is very humid evaporation is minimal and removing the cover helps. In average conditions it doesn't really matter much either way.
