Does anyone know how many pools are built per year in the US?

I looked high and low and could never find an answer - I'm posting in the hope that someone else will see this again and it will spark them to take the challenge and find the answer.

I work in the pool service world and it just seems like this industry lacks regulation and over site. One person will tell you one thing, and another will tell you something totally different. Hard to get straight answers out there. As far as pool numbers, just curious on economic recovery. Pools are luxury items, and if there is a healthy number being built, I would think the industry is rebounding from years of "tough" economic times.
