So I've got this diverter valve...

...and it looks like this:

The flow comes from the filter at the right, and at the moment it's set to send all the water back to two eyeballs through the tube at the bottom. The tube at the top goes to a pair of jacuzzi jets behind the bench seat of the pool, and they draw air from a set of small tubes near that end of the pool.

The problem is that if I move the valve from its current position, I get a little leaking from the valve itself, so I guess I need a rebuild kit.

The valve says Pentair, but I'm not sure of the model. I measured the narrow tube coming from the filter, and it's 2" OUTSIDE diameter. The other tubes going into the valve appear to be the same size.

When you look at Pentair's diverter valve page at http://www.pentairpool.com/pool-pro/products/valves-diverter-valve-15-and-2-2-way-and-3-way-39.htm, I'm not sure what model I have. Would it be the 263035 3-Way CPVC 1-1/2 in. (2 in. slip outside)?

Where can I order parts or a rebuild kit for the valve? Is it possible I just need to disassemble it, clean it up and lube whatever gasket it has?

I assume the rebuild or cleaning is straightforward, but figured I'd ask before I started taking apart something I have no knowledge of. :lol:

BTW, is there a "Valves 101" post somewhere? Everything I know about diverter valves is already contained in this post.

If the pipe measured ~2" OD it's 1½" pipe. So the valve you have is a 1½ x 2".

It's possible that you could just take ot apart and clean and lube it good and it work, but since you have to disassemble it you might as well have the rebuild kit there and replace the seals.

Also, since it is grey, it is likely a PVC valve body and not CPVC (which is black). I am not sure off-hand if the internals are the same.

I just installed a Pentair 3-way myself and was surprised to get leakage from the top the first time I turned it ... brand new!!!. Got it to stop after turning a few times, but I need to open it up and see what might be going on. I do not want it to be leaking when I put an actuator on it and it gets turned a few times per day.

Now that you mention it, when I tested it today with the wife I didn't see the leak I saw the first time I tried it. It's been sitting unused for over a year. Perhaps it just needed to get wet. I'll try it again tomorrow before I start opening it up. Since I'll turn it manually, if there's a leak I'll see it right away.

For the record, I have those Pentair valves on mine. I have had to replace the top O-ring on two of them since installation in 2004. It's very thin and it breaks in place leaving a gap which leaks. The internals between the sizes are the same, with the exception of the diverter. Here's a link, in case you need it in the future.

My problem was #6 O-ring #2-152 Buna 70 Shore. Unless your leak is at the stem, that's probably it. No need to rebuild the whole thing, if it operates correctly. It's an easy swap.
