Muriatic acid

I have a 33,000 gallon black PebbleTec in ground pool, suffering from years of chronic scale or calcium build up on entire pool surface. Usually in spring I drain and manually acid wash (very labor intensive). Pool supply store clerk suggested placing 10 -15 gal of muriatic acid in it for winter and let acid do its work over time. Pump will be disconnected for winter. Does this make sense?

Welcome to TFP.

You have an example of a pool that is definitely not trouble free. Has the pool store given you guidance on how to avoid this condition? Probably not. I am not anti pool store. I buy my MA there but I do my own testing and don't let them sell me any potions. Do you have a good test kit? Do you have an idea what you calcium hardness level is?

Let's gather as much info as possible and we can get you some solutions.
