AG pool with drain, closing question.

So its my first year as a pool owner... below my skimmer is a valve that has a hose going to the filter and one going into the ground that connects with a drain in the middle of the pool. So while I can remove the other hoses, the drain I can't.

Just wondering how to winterize this part, as I can't really empty the underground drain hose as all I can do is close it at the valve.

Would I put antifreeze in the skimmer with the valve on the drain, then shut the valve? Won't the antifreeze run through the hose and come up the drain into the pool?

You have the right idea. Force antifreeze into the main drain piping until you see it come out in the pool, then cap off the pipe on the outside to keep it in.

One other thing, is this special pool antifreeze I would need to get from a pool store or is there grocery store equivalent stuff I can buy or that too?

You want to find the stuff used for water lines in RVs ... it is "safe". Not the automotive engine stuff.
