I've already called tech support and they're sending out a service guy tomorrow. On the phone today he told me its most likely a piece called a slinger and that they just remove it, that its not needed and serves no purpose. This doesn't sound right to me? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

I would not let him remove the slinger. It IS there for a purpose. Sure your pump will run fine without it, but when (not if) your pump develops a seal leak, water will shoot straight down the shaft and kill the bearings and most likely the motor itself.

I would call Pentair and tell them what his plans are and see if they say it's fine to remove it. If they say it is, have them send you an email stating the same.
