I finally bought an above ground pool. I work at a pool store which is why I got a great deal on a pump and filter. The pool is only 15' round and the pump is a 1.5 hp for above ground pools. It's connected to the pool by 2-1.5" hoses 6 ft long each. Basically the pump is just too strong, and I'm wondering what is the best way to reduce the gpm.? So far I've considering putting a ball valve at the outlet of the filter to adjust flow or downsizing the impeller to a 1 hp. What do you think? Thanks for any help.

Downsizing the impeller probably is best if that's easy for you to do.

If the ball valve is easier, that would be fine. Of course, your psi will go up if you restrict the outflow but it actually ends up using less electricity that way and doesn't harm the pump in any way
