Practically speaking, what's the difference between borax and BioGuard's Balance Pak 200 (aka 100% Sodium Carbonate)?

The BioGuard stuff is left over, and since I've switched to BBB, my pH never goes down. I'm trying to figure out if there's any use at all for this stuff.

For raising pH, on a practical level, nothing.

For the feel, the sparkle, or the algaestatic properties, they're totally different chemicals.
