Spa and Algaecide

I poured what I thought was algaecide 60 into my spa and got a lot of foam. The label said it was non-foaming but it foamed like crazy. All my numbers were good, pH, Cl, TA, etc. so I'm not sure what happened.

The best idea is to simply not use the algaecide.

The foam will go away in a couple of days.

Also, if your CH level is below 150, you might try raising CH to 150.

I think I was fooled into thinking what I bought was polyquat 60 algaecide. I used it from time to time last season in my spa and pool and never had a problem with real polyquat 60.

Do you know if some of the cheaper algaecides will foam up?

Some of the cheaper algaecides foam up even without spa jets. Most of them will foam with spa jets.

Do you really need the algaecide? If you maintain proper chlorine levels algae can't grow even without algaecide.
