Spoke to the pool cover company -- they said their standard cleaning process is to combine dawn dish soap + hot water in a 5 gallon bucket, clean the cover with that, dry....and then apply an UV protectent to the top surface of the cover (however, the person I spoke to didn't know the brand or specs).

Has anyone heard of what UV protectent is used for safety covers and if it truly prolongs the life of the cover w/o adding non-desired chemicals to the pool?

All decent safety covers resist UV for 10 years at a minimum, most for 12 or so, This is out of the box. Hosing the cover off after any debris is removed and a possible brushing off with a nylon pool brush is all that is needed. The use of detergents and UV protectants is not needed or wanted since they get in the pool water.
