Converting intex pro series 24 ft filter/pump to sand filter

Ok...so I have read a bunch of posts here but really not pin pointing the answer...is there a fitting to go from a skimmer to a sand filter...I have the metal frame 24 ft intex pro series and as a bonus the lovely pumped died....so I picked up the intex sand pump/filter-1600 gph...another surprise is everything works great...kind of...right now the pump sits 2ft off the ground with the intake weighed down at the bottom of the pool...soooo the water level is below the skimmer line...anyone know of a simple way to connect the sand filter to the bottom of the skimmer? Please help...desperate me...
