HELP!!! or is this normal for the pump/motor

No it's not normal.

Likeliest cause is the motor is overheating and the thermal protection is turning it off. Motor cools down and protection lets it start again.

If the pump otherwise seems to be operating properly, check for obstructions around the cooling vents, pine needles, leaves etc. Clean them all out (you should do this periodically anyway).

Sorry, for the 2nd username as I couldn't remember password and I am using a work computer, for this reply. I went out to pool and there was a weight in the pump basket that I had put there a while back as my backet is broke and wouldn't stay down. However after taking this weight out I think I may have fixed the problem. Could it be that easy???
