Inquiring minds would like to know ;)

I normally consume about 2ppm per day chlorine, with a ph drift upwards from 7.2 to 7.8 over a week to 10 days.

I added 64 oz of jack's pink stuff b/c my iron staining was back and I'd only used maint levels before, assuming pool guys sequestrate added at start was still working.

This a.m. My ph dropped from 7.6 to 7.4 and I used 3 ppm of chlorine.
Is that the work of Jack? Just curious. I recall reading it is phosphoric acid, so perhaps I should not be surprised that it behave like, well, an acid!

Someday I will master this predictive pool chem phenom ;)

Jack's, like nearly all sequestrants, is mildly acidic. Different brands vary in how much chlorine they consume. Jack's has one of the lowest chlorine consumptions, some other brands will use rather more chlorine.
