Converting back to saltwater

I've recently moved into a house that a friend inherited and the pool has a swg system already installed. The pool guy inexplicably started using liquid chlorine in the pool and shut off the swg system. So the pool has been lc for over a year now. We want to revert it back to using the swg and have a question:

1. Do we need to empty the pool and refill it before turning the swg back on?

Is there anything else we should do?

Welcome to the forum

A SWG pool is a chlorine pool. Just the method of introducing the chlorine is different.

Post a full set of test results, tell us how you got them, & we'll help you get balanced.

We need:
FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA
Salt
Borates (if you use borates)

You should not need to empty the pool before you turn your SWG back on. A SWG (or more accurately SWCG) stands for Salt Water Chlorine Generator. You are still sanitizing the pool with chlorine..just a different method of creating/adding it.

Do you have a good test kit? If so, please post results and we can let you know if anything else should be done.

PS Welcome to TFP!
