I just bought a Solar cover for my bigger pool. The old solar cover had drain holes about every two feet . The new one has none. Should I punch some holes. I wonder why it doesn't have holes?

I remember the first time I ever bought a solar cover. I brought it back to Walmart because it had holes in it!!

I don't really see a need for them. I'd think more water would come from the pool to the top of the cover than would drain.
My thought is that rain water would make the cover sink (with heavy rain) if it doesn't have holes. I could be totally wrong on that but that's what I thought had happened to me on a cover that had apparently not enough holes.
I have never had one that had holes. If you trim it to fit your pool, the water will just level out . I have never had one sink. I really never thought sinking one was even possible.
The one with holes seemed easier to remove but it was also smaller and thinner, and also had less water on the top of the cover.
That's my findings as well. The one with holes had less water on top. I've seen half of my solar cover sunken. Perhaps the bubbles had deteriorated and burst for all I know. But I've definitely had solar blankets sink on more than one occasion.

A couple of winters ago we left our solar blanket on when we winterized out pool. It helped keep the winter cover from sinking. Our solar cover does not have holes in it, apparently the water levels out and top continues to float (although we don't use it much).
I've not had one with holes. I have never had mine sink - even with 4 inches of rain one night. I can see where the holes might let the small amounts of water on top drain out when rolling it up, but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
