I recently switched my pool pump from 24-7 to 12 hours a day. When the pump shuts off, my skimmer basket floats out of its socket and when the pump comes on, the basket doesn't sink back into place, but sits askew and the debris bypasses the basket. Like a real idiot, I put a rock in the basket to weigh it down. It worked fine for a few days, but this morning I checked the skimmer and the basket was upside down and the rock was lodged deep inside the suction pipe. I almost had a heart attack when I saw it. Luckily, I was able to use a pair of long forceps to remove the rock. Sometimes I am amazed at how dumb I am.
