Just got the pool in from Royal pools. Great to deal with even though they sent the wrong pump and left out 3 pieces of coping. Digging should start in early July as a semi DIY build. I have hired out the dig and the pool bottom/ liner install. Here are the specs:

36' 8" x 16' 9" Grecian app. 19k gallon
2hp tristar 2 speed pump
30" ranger sand filter
8ft Roman step with 2 spa jets
8ft Cozy Cove with 6 spa jets
6 deck jets
Hayward aqua plus wt 40k cell
2" plumbing with 4 pentair 3 way valves & 3 actuators
Also building a gazebo after the pool deck has been poured.

Here are a few pics of the yard and pool. Slight variation. I have swapped the tristar pump for a Ecostar pump which arrived today. Also got another surprise in the mail today.

Hopefully we will start digging in a week or so. :)

Digging has finally began after a week of 110 degree heat followed by 2 weeks of rain everyday. [attachment=1:jt6h499z]ImageUploadedByTapatalk1343512280.273979.jpg[/attachment:jt6h499z]

Royal swimming pools. I have had nothing but great things to say about them. They did mess up our pump order but gave us a discount to order a upgrade to the ecostar at a great price. Took 5 days from ordering to delivery and about 2 weeks for for liner delivery.

They came back to finish digging the deep end today. About an hour and a half. Tomorrow they should be hand carving the slopes and then walls.

Quick question. We had to build up the bottom side a little more than I thought. The pool deck is going to be a good 2 foot higher than the grade near the house on the lower side. What is the best way to make it look right after the deck is poured? I am thinking putting down black plastic and bringing in some landscaping rock with a cement walkway in the middle from the back porch. Are there any more option? I really don't want to sod it.

Ground cover plants! I *hate* landscaping rocks myself. They are hard, miserable to walk on and look hot in the hot summers. We put some wide steps on one side of our slope from our pool and have put wonderful soft ground cover in ("Blue Star Creeper") and its spreading very nicely. Very soft underfoot, very pleasing to look at.

Just a thought.... But you might want to think about installing a french drain to divert the rain water from the roof and slope of the pool. All that water on your foundation won't be good. I'm by no means an expert though!

If you don't and later you discover there is a problem. Install some gutter to eliminate at least the roof water when it rains.

Thanks yippie for the link. Will look into those.

Chris- The more I think about it the more it looks like a French drain is going to have to be Installed.

Few questions. How far away from the house foundation can I safely put a French drain? Also another question, I plan to put in a dry well for back washing and draining the pool and now since it looks like we will need a French drain I will probably tie that Into it also. Anyone know what size I would need to make the dry well?

We got about 3 inches of rain today so no more progress as of yet. We have a pool of sorts just not what we was looking for. Was hopping to pour the bond beam Saturday but that is not looking to good.

Clay soup?

Kyle-

Google curtain drain(type of french drain for surface water) and take a look and see if that would work.

You might okay with just gutters and diverting the water away from the area. It's hard to tell from the pictures and what future concrete decking you are installing.

Dry well- How deep would you have to dig to hit sand/permeable soil in your area?
Are you on a well or city water?

On a side note any progress on the build?
Chris

Quick PVC question. Is sch40 280psi all the same. Just went and bought 450 feet of pipe and while unloading noticed it said sch40 280psi PVC-dwv. I just seen sch 40 and grabbed it. Hope I don't have to take it back.
