Advice on an SWG setup

Okay, here's my setup, looking for advice on an SWG setup: Pentair variable speed inteliflow pump and sand filter on a 19k+ fiberglass pool w/ 2" plumbing. I typically run my pump low speed 24/7 during the season and have very few problems using BBB/1" tri-chlor tabs.

Thought about going with the Pentair 40 SWG but I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks

If you don't have a Pentair automation system the IC-40 has a significant disadvantage. Without automation the percentage setting can only be adjusted in steps of 20%, which is very limiting. With a Pentair automation system it is a great SWG and integrates well with the automation.

So I went with the CompuPool CPSC36. Installation was pretty straight forward, about an hour and a half start to finish. Salt was added a few days ago and it was 3400 PPM this morning, so I started the unit and after it ran thru its diagnostics, it started producing chlorine. Because my FC/TC is 8.5, I shut it off for tonight and I'll check in the morning to see what FC/TC are. My filter runs 24/7 at 1275 RPM's which gives me about one turn per day (approx. 20k gallons). Should I run the CPSC 24/7 at a really low percentage or dial it up and time it? I'd like to maintain chlorine at 3-5 PPM. My CYA is approx. 70 PPM right now. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Try 50% to start then go from there. If it will produce as 1275 RPM that would be good info to know. Do you know the flow rate at 1275. 3-5 PPM with a CYA at 70 is appropriate with a SWCG.
You may be able to run at 20 or 30 percent or lower. I'm running a CPSC48 on a 17K pool 80% for approx 8 hours.

Flow rate calculates out to 13.9 GPM at 163 watts, so just a shade over 20k/24 hours. I could dial up speed 1550 RPM/264 watts for 12 hours and get the same turnover for about a 13 cent per day savings (.82 vs. .69), but I just like the 24/7 run since it keeps the water moving and I feel there's less chance of Crud getting hold of the pool.

I guess I'll try to run the SWG 24/7 at 10% and go from there. Hopefully that doesn't overheat the unit. I may try calling compupool and see what they suggest.

I have not read this entire thread but that jumped out at me. That is NOT enough water movement for a 19k pool and is asking for water quality trouble sooner or later.

I would suggest a flow rate of at least 30gpm to have a viable system.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've been running this pool for 3 seasons 24/7 at this setting, which works out to a little over 20k in 24 hours, so 1 full turn of the water. This was the suggestion from the PB and it seems to be on the money. The only problem has been the chlorine feeder which would not work at this flow rate with 3" tabs. I switched to 1" tabs last year and the feeder worked better, but I still needed to add 12.5 chlorine as a back up.

As an aside, the SWG is creating chlorine without any problems and the SWG vessel is 99% filled with water during its run time using my settings.

So here's a couple shots of the CPSC-36 setup I did (sorry I shot them with my cell camera). I didn't follow all the installation rules, but it's working as expected, so I'm happy with it. With my setup, I found that I have to ramp up my pump to 1,500 RPM and run 50% output on the SWG for 8 hours (4 hours on, 8 hours off, then 4 hours on again) to keep my water at consistent 3 PPM. I can't ask for more.

Thanks for the comments that were posted.
