BACKWASH??????

after backwashing my sand filter when i start the pump back up after backwashing it pumps sand or fine dirt back into the pool .
i changed the plunger already.

need help

Are you running it on the rinse position before going to filter?

Is this a new filter, or did you just replace the sand?
It may be just sediment blowing through and will subside soon.
If it's older sand, you may have a crack in one of your filter laterals.

There's also the Rinse position on the valve, which "settles" the sand back down before going back to the Filter mode.
Filter --> Backwash --> Rinse --> Filter

my filter is less than a year old ut no real new. the planger pushes down to backwash and pulls up to lock in place to filter. i don't know what you mean by rinse.

You have a slide valve. There's no rinse setting.

You most likely have a cracked lateral.
