Is there a way to change the laterals on a hayward s200 sand filter without removing the bottom assembly. doesn't appear to be enough room to screw them out. any help would be very much appreciated.

I do not have experience with your filter, but most sand filters need the sand removed at least to replace laterals. On mine since the laterals do not fold up, I have to remove the sand an then raise the laterals up so I can access them through the top of the filter with my hand.
