We have owned this bank bought home for 2+ years now, past 2 summers pool max temp was 80* in mid August when the temps were ~100+ for days at a time. We live near Sacramento Ca. I read everything I could find on solar panels and their reviews, scoured the web for info. before starting the project as we have infloor cleaning jets and too many pumps already.
My pool has a spa that flows into the pool and a vanishing edge which flows into what we call the "Mote".
There is a designated filter and pump (#1)for the mote, pump and filter(#2) for the pool which supplies the pressure to the infloor cleaning jets, Pump for the spa jets(#3), and a pump(#4) for the "Water feature" which pumps from the mote to the spa which causes both to overflow/waterfall in a spectacular show of both sparkling waterfalls and Niagra-esque sound. With that many pumps and pipes it was a challenge to design an efficient and professional solar panel pool heating system. With the help of TFP and the 2nd best solar site on the internet, H2Osun, I was able to design and install my own solar panels and save a TON of money doing it too.
I purchased (5) 4x12 solar panels manufactured by SwimMaster, they are the SwimMaster Plus models, their top of the line. I purchased this brand because of their 2" collector / headers size and because of their "Molded-in" tube on fin design and extra heavy duty construction.
I am VERY pleased with the quality and robustness of their products and the design of the header pipe capture system. All in all I have right around $2,000 invested in parts including paint (which I have yet to finish)

The recent weather here has been in the mid 80*s and low 50*s overnight, the pool now is a balmy 89* in the afternoon. One day in particular the temperature increase shocked us by climbing from 76* to 84* in one day! The air temps that day were in the mid 80s*.
I will have to start throttling back on the heat soon as I don't want a spa temperature in my pool.
