Has anyone ever just used the existing area from a previous pool to set up a metal wall pool that had sand for the base? We live in south texas, solid black hard dirt and our 24ft intex ultra frame had a good sand base. We went out and leveled it off and my brother said to just install in on top with the patio squares under the legs. His is done the same way and has been that way for the last 7 years. We're going to lay the styrofoam insulation sheets on top of the sand before putting the liner in.

As long as the patio squares under the legs are solid you should be fine. The best way to insure that is to remove any sand under the patio squares, but the existing sand can remain everywhere else.
