I have read somewhere others have used salt water without a salt water generator. That some pools with a regular pump can handle salt water. Read the intex pump the pool comes with is all they used. Wondering If anyone here has experience with this?

Are you referring to adding salt to a chlorine managed pool?
Some people add pool salt to a regular BBB pool in order to have softer water, I was planning on trying this summer. I believe this is one area where a salt test strip kit is adequate. My understanding is that, done right, it doesn't make the water "salty".

No chlorine, pool is not up yet so I can start fresh.

We added salt for "feel" last year. Could tell a difference. Will add it again this year. We used 80lbs for our pool that holds about 5400 gallons. I believe you want to aim for around 2000.
