I left water in the filter over the winter, and it stinks

So I was moving my Hayward 166t Filter and heard water sloshing around. I opened the drain and water started coming out and it stunk.
Do I need to somehow clean the filter now?

Start it on backwash to rinse the water out.

What he said. Be careful where you point the discharge, because it's going to be gross and smelly.
