I have been looking at different pool options from websites and on some I see it gives the option to have 2 aqua genies and no main drains. Is that a good idea or are main drains a must for a 8ft pool? I see where people with 5-6 ft pools say drains are not needed but what are the advantages and disadvantages for a 8ft?

You don't need a main drain and a lot of people are having them built without them. Some people ssay they need them to get good circulation and some do not. If you have enough returns in the right places you won't need them at all.
