CYA Quick question.

I read it takes a week after adding (solid) for it to be an accurate test. But, my husband tested the CYA 24 hours after adding and it showed results, of 50. (I am having to do a lot of explaining of this new method to him) This is not an accurate, correct?
I was at zero, before I added.

Hmmm. Did you add the stabilizer by putting it in a sock in front of your jet, or did you add it to your filter basker?

It could take up to a week for it to show up accurately on the test. That statement is to save you headaches in case it doesn't show up quickly and to save you reagent by not having you test it for a week. I've used the CYA from Walmart and had it show up the next day, but you can't count on that with some brands.

I added it in a nylon sock near my return, I am also shocking my pool atm as well. Just in the opening phase.

Different water chemistry results in different CYA dissolution rates. The week is just enough time to be sure it's all dissolved. If you know your pool volume and know how much you added, you should be able to tell when it is all dissolved by the test.

Thanks for the quick replies. If anything, in the BBB system is tricky to me its the CYA. I will wait a whole week and test again. As I see my shocking days are almost over, as I am almost at losing 1ppm of chlorine over night. (only lost 2.5 ppm last night) We have a weekend of 90 degree weather coming up, and I hope to be enjoying the crystal clear waters!

Do you have a full set of test results you can post? (And the cya was scary for me too....I didn't want to overdo it and half to exchange the water!!)

Since I am still shocking my pool, I have only kept up with the Chlorine, CYA, and Ph
This AM Test results were:
FC 18.25
PH 7.4
CYA 50
