Water Tested - Now What

May 20, 2012

I did what was recommended and drained 50% of my water and added new water. Went and had the water tested today and this is what it says:

Temp - 70; CYA - 36; TC - .4; FC - 0; PH - 7.3; TA - 121; Total hardness - 308. What they recommend is 4lbs of shock. Should I enter this info in the pool calculator and just use bleach or liquid chlorine? How will I know if I need to add more? Thanks a bunch. This site is awesome!

It would be great if you could put your pool and equip info in your sig.

You should enter the data in the Pool Calc and use bleach to shock the pool. You'll have to have frequent test results in order to perform the shocking properly. And you'll need a FAS-DPD test to know when you're done.

I am not sure how to put a signature on here but this is the info I know off hand:

We have an In-Ground L-Shaped pool with Vinyl Liner. Hayward Sand Filter. After doing the LxWxAvg Depx7.5 our pool only holds 24,502 gallons. We were told 40,000. If you separate our pool into two rectangles they measure: 18x28 shallow end 3 ft; 25x18 deep end 8ft

Top left, click "User Control Panel"
Click "Profile" tab on left side.
2nd item is "Edit Signature".

:)

Hrmm.

I'm coming up with pretty close to 40,000 myself. 39,352.5 to be precise.

18 * 28 * 5.5 (Average of 3 and 8) = 2772
18 * 25 * 5.5 = 2475
2475 + 2772 = 5247
5247 * 7.5 = 39352.5

See we were told to separate the pool into to rectangles and multiply by 7.5 separately. that gives us a totally different answer. Now I dont know what to believe.

LxWxAvgDepx7.5

you are saying to add the two totals together then x by 7.5
