SWG running unless performing OCLT. Just assuming CYA was what it was previously. I see that my FC dropped below shock value on chart, but never below that of pool calc. Which one should I go off of? I have numbers back to the beginning of May if needed. I just realized some of my numbers didn't get saved, tests were performed b/t 25th and 28th. This started this year after my pump quit working. I had a green pool, went through shock process passed OCLT. I was letting FC levels drop back to normal, lowest I let it get was to 5. It was at 8.5 when I noticed the MA coming back for the first time this year(outbreaks of it for the past 3 yrs). Not sure what is going on, which is why I was questioning the sand.

This morning FC 29.
This after evening it was 27 with the swg running at 80% all day. It was cloudy most of the day.
Any suggestions about algae in sand, or should the FC kill it off and not have to worry about changing it out?
Algae needs light to grow. There are genetically modified algae that can grow in the dark but need glucose to replace the photosynthesis supplied food. Pretty interesting stuff. One of the genes implanted is the human gene responsible for glucose uptake in red blood cells.

Shock level should kill the algae.
However, never hesitate to open the filter and check it out.

I guess I will just try to keep FC a little higher to try and finish it off. I just had to place another order for reagents, half way finished with the third bottle and second tub for the fas-dpd test. I hope it ends soon, I'll be out of town this weekend and having a pool party the following.
