The flagstone coping around my pool is chipping and pitting pretty bad. I've heard this is a common problem with Salt, but my pool is not salt.

Would sealing help? What sealer should I use?

After some google searching I've read some good reviews of Aldon SBS sealer - but none of the reviews were actually for pool use?

Flagstone is a generic term for a flat stone, usually irregularly shaped, suitable for paving or stepping-stones.

There are many types of stone that could be used as a flagstone. Sandstone and quartzite are common, but not exclusive.

Other types include slate, limestone, bluestone (usually a sandstone) etc.

Since your stone is deteriorating, I'm going to guess that it might be a soft sandstone or limestone.

If you can provide a few pictures of the stone, we could probably identify it.
