Jandy Pump Won't Start

I have an inground Jandy Magnum Force 1.5hp pump and I just hooked up the plumbing in my pool to open it. When I turn on the power all I hear is a loud humming noise from the pump. No water is pumping at all. I did prime the pump. I called the pool store and they said most likely the bearing on the pump are gone. Any clue on what the problem could be?

Sounds more like a capacitor problem to me ...

With the power off, try turning the motor shaft/impeller by hand/wrench. If it turns freely, then the bearing may be fine and you may just have to check/replace the capacitor.
