Hello everyone!

Should I raise the TA so that the CSI is 0 to a positive number to protect plaster?

Pool Calculator says 70-90+ and it says a TA of 130 is required for CSI to be just on the positive side without borates and 0 with borates at 40 ppm.

Right now I am shocking the pool with the following readings:

FC = 24
CC = 0
pH = 7.5
CH = 260
CYA = 55
TA = 90
Temp = 72
Borate to be added to 40 as soon as shocking is over.

Thanks!

I would think you would be better off bumping up the CH and keeping your TA lower to help hold your pH if you are concerned with you CSI. But being a little negative is not that bad I don't think.

Thanks for the replies....

It has been a character of the pool that the pH keeps rising with the TA lurking around 90-100. I noticed that last year soon after i brought the house.

How are TA and pH related? The lower TA the higher pH?

Thanks!

TA is a buffer for pH. If TA is too low tgw pH can swing wildly. If TA is too high it will pull the pH up.

If you are constantly fighting to hold pH down. Try lowering TA using the process described in pool school.
