no pool use this year

This year we will not be opening the pool as I will be going to Afghanistan, we live in South West Oklahoma (Cache). What should done to combat the mosquitos and algae build up that will occur during the hot dry summer. What can be done? Or needs to be done?

I imagine this depends on the type of pool (AG vs IG) and whether it is covered or not.
I have a feeling it will be tough to keep it clear if you are not wanting to run the pump and add chlorine, but someone else will have to address suggestions.

inground plaster, covered but dirt and small debris and leaves do get in. Spouse will be here but cows, and maintaining the land will be too much to manage.

Cover it as tight as you can. Algae and mosquitos both need some air and light to grow. You will be able to clear up whatever condition it is in when you return. Thanks for your service.

You can use mosquito dunks to cut down on the mosquito population while the pool is closed.
