Unions on intake/outflow

I'm swapping my old pump out and when I b ought the new VS, they suggested I purchase the unions. Is there a reason why I want unions on the two lines on the pump? Is it only for ease of changing the pump or removing it in the future?

Makes it much easier to work on your system. If you find you didn't get a tHreaded connection tight, you can disconnect the union and tighten it or remove it and add dope. Well worth it.

Where to source the unions? HD doesn't have the male thread in unions.

This is why I asked if they are worth it, as the onyl ones I can find are the slip ones. So if I ever change plumbing, I have to keep the union and the attached PVC as there is no pulling it out later. Lowes had unions with one side threaded however.
