Leak - above water line

Last summer I had a leak on the bottom of the pool - a few pinhole sized leaks. Those were patched and water was no longer leaking where there had been a visible leak that you could see coming out of the bottom on the outside. This was at the end of summer. I was still losing water somewhere and the water dropped to a certain level and has stayed at that level. It's well below the intake and outtake hoses, so it's not related to the pump. Any ideas on how to find it? I've gone around the pool and cannot find a tear - I'm assuming since the water has remained at the same level for a few months, that the leak is somewhere above the water line. It's a 27 round above ground - any ideas for finding it would be great. I haven't filled it yet because I wasn't sure if I should try to locate the leak first.
