Pool tile

Can tile from Lowes or Home Depot be used in a pool or is pool tile made specific for pools?

I've been curious about this too. Can't seem to find a difference between pool tile and porcelain tile other than the pool tile costs more... Anyone know what the difference is?

The scum line tile around my pool is plain ole' porcelain tile bought from HD. I chose it because porcelain has very, very little moisture absorption. The thinset and grout I used are ordinary as well, 8 years and counting...no problems.

I believe "pool tile" is porcelain tile
