closing a pool down in high summer

Hello Folks
We are returning to the UK for 3 months from the high heat of a Thai hot season. Last time we did this trip we returned to a large Algae problem that took a long time to fix. Does anyone have some tips on how to maintain the water quality while we are way. I cover the pool with a black thin cover that keeps the water temperature cool but should I add extra chlorine to shock level before we leave?
Any advice will be gratefully received and thanks again to all who have helped me in the past

Without regular additions, the addition of chlorine will be fruitless.

Covering with a thicker tarp that doesn't let light in is really all you can do if nobody will be caring for the pool while you are away.

Is there anybody that looks after the place while you're gone?
If not is there a pool company that you can hire to do it?
Adding an swcg will help if there's someone to check on it once in a while.
