how to check pump for damage

Last night the temperature dropped below 32 and my freeze protection turned on. Great right!?
Well...we had a big rain the day before and I backwashed to get water level down. I forgot to put the filter back to "filter" so when I woke up this morning I heard the pump running. Went outside and water level is below the skimmer and pump has been running.

Not sure how long the pump ran, but I am wondering if there is any damage and how to check for it??

The easiest way is just to refill the pool and see if the pump works. Your main concern would be heat warping the housing or impeller, meaning you will have flow issues or leaks.
