Best Practices for attaching new Jandy ePump

I am replacing my old pump with a new Jandy ePump. The new pump has two nice threaded tail piece interfaces and I was just wondering if there were any "Best Practices" for connecting the pump to the existing plumbing other than solvent weld accordingly?

If you haven't done this already, I would use pipe dope on the threads (not glue of any kind) and would use unions on the inlet and outlet sides, so the pump can be easily removed if need be.
