Signature Rules:

In case you don't know what a signature is, it is the text that you can put in your user profile that will show up at the bottom of every post that you make. I encourage every user to include information about their own pool in their signature.

Here is what it can contain:
Up to five standard height lines of information about you, your pool and equipment, and most anything else you think is important to tell people every time. Please be specific. The best information to include is the size of your pool in both feet and gallons, the kind of pool surface (vinyl, plaster, fiberglass, pebble), what kind of filter you have (sand, DE, cartridge), and if you have a SWG. Anything else you feel like mentioning is great as long as it fits in five lines. Information about your pool helps us answer your questions and helps people reading your posts understand the context.

If you are a business owner, and you have posted 200 meaningful posts, your signature can contain the name of your business and one or two links to your web site, as long as they are text links, you are not posting for the sole purpose of promoting your business, and there is no associated marketing speak. Poolsean and duraleigh are both excellent examples of the right ways to do this.

What will not be allowed is anyone posting JUST to promote a business. Also, please DO NOT use pictures or images of any kind in your signature. Only text is allowed in the signature. If you are trying to read through a sequence of posts with long signatures and/or pictures, it gets annoying and makes it hard to read through a thread. Having images in your signature also contributes to slower loading pages.

Avatar Rules:
An avatar is the small picture or image placed under your username out the left when you post. They can be no larger than 100x100 pixels and not more than 6,144 bytes in size. Linking to remote avatars is not allowed. Animated avatars are not allowed - having large flashing avatars can make it very distracting for the reader going through a thread. We are just trying to maintain both the look, and usability of the site.

Thanks,
JasonLion

Please note that the rules for signatures have changed! Signatures are now limited to five lines of text, or shorter.

I am sorry to have to ask, but those of you with long signatures need to update them to fit within the five line limit. Signatures can be edited by clicking here.

This change to the rules has been prompted by the recent appearance of several long signatures, which make it very tedious to read through a sequence of posts. By shortening your signature, you make it much simpler for people to read through a topic. That also makes it easier for us to answer your question.

Thanks!
Jason
