Hey all, I was just told a couple of hours ago that I'm going to the Goldline SWCG 'pool-pro' seminar tomorrow AM @ 8 EST. Any ?s that I should address? I'll need an answer by ~10:00 (EST) so as to receive them, because my sister-in-law is sleeping in my computer room and won't be able to access the room after 11:00 and won't be able to get in in the morning (though I might check-in real quick, if I'm able) I'll leave this as it is right now, and hope for some responses

A couple I would be interested in:
Is chlorine production directly proportional to the amp reading in the display?
How does the chlorine production change as a function of salt level and water temperature? Is there a formula for this?
What water temperature and salt level (or amps) is assumed for the specified production rate of 1.45 lbs./day?
What is the amp-hour life of the cell?
Also, a few suggestions for improvements:
Have a separate timer setting for spillover and pool. Currently, you can only do one or the other but not both.
Turnoff the SWG for 3 minutes when solar is turned on. Currently, the SWG does not turn off when solar is turned on so when super heated water hits the cell, a high salt reading shuts it off for a full cycle (i.e. 2 hours).

As a follow up.
Mark, I couldn't pin the guy down for a 1:1 (but I have his cell and e-mail, so I can ask him about those things - it wasn't anywhere near what i thought it would be... we ended up getting certified as a warrantee center(?) - I thought it would be an advanced course on troubleshooting the units - it was an overview with reps from 20 different Ct pool co.s to get certified as warrantee centers
However, one of your questions was answered, the new chip revision has a 3 min shutoff for the cell when activating solar heat - to prevent what you've seen. (there are all sorts of other things the latest chips will allow (if you want more info, let me know what you may want to do and we'll find out if a chip upgrade is the right move for your situation/ needs).
{at this point, I want to point out that I DO NOT work for Hayward nor Goldline, I'm just letting the folks here know about some of the new abilities of the Goldline units, I don't make any $ from it, but believe that folks considering a new pool or SWCG/ automation should know what's out there so they can make an informed choice :angel: }
Poolsean, I won't make it to AC, though I'd really like to, the only tradeshow I attend is the annual Baystate at Foxwoods - and honestly spend more time in the casino than at the show 
Anyway, Goldline has some things that are new, and I thought I'd let the good folk here know of them - first is the ORP and pH control (Poolpilot has had this for a few years) called 'Sense and Dispense' The second, which is still in the planning stage, is a way to control the unit from a PC. The third is a way to make the newer 'Tri-Star' motors variable speed (though they said it only has 6 different speeds {done by % of full power}) They didn't get too specific about it, so I don't have much more info, but will find out if someone's interested -- what i do know is that you would be able to set a couple different run times at various speeds and have a '100%' option for vacuuming or backwashing.
One other 'funny' thing with the warrantees I saw was that there was a 3 year on units (perhaps not all products, but the ones I saw a warrantee for) sold west of Texas and a 1 year on those sold east of Texas

Thanks for info. It is good to see that they are at least thinking about some of the advanced features you mentioned.
I would be interested in an upgrade to the controller but I remember them telling me that they do not allow owners to perform their own upgrades so you have to get a certified installer to replace the entire board. However, if I only need to do a chip swap, perhaps it might be easier to get the new chip. Any details you might have or can get would be much appreciated.

Haward has cut way down on replacement parts for the goldline automation. As far as I know you must replace the whole board (and possible the RF unit and some other parts) to upgrade to the newest software. Even parts for the actuators have been discontinued for the most part. Hayward wants you to buy a whole new one instead of repairing what you have (even though the repairs are often simple!)

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. It's too bad that they don't go to more of an USB type of firmware upgrade system but I understand the economics of doing this. However, in the long run, it may keep their customers happier and help their reputation.
Hayward CAN flash the firmware on the goldline panels. For example, if you have an older aqualogic panel that will not work with their new aqua-pod, they can flash the firmware to support the new pod. You will still need a new antenna, but not new board. Same goes for the new 'sense and dispense' systems. They have to bring their equipment to your house, and they don't let their warranty stations or installers use this equipment, but if your installer has a good relationship with hayward, and you ask really nicely, it CAN be done.
