Pool is three weeks old. We have been chasing ph and seem to finally have under control. Decided to change pool supply companies and so far very satisfied. My only question is about adding calcium. Supplier wanted to know if pool builder added calcium to our new pool, he did not. She told us it was imperative that we add because the calcium reading we are getting is from the calcium being pulled from the plaster and will cause problems later. We are questioning this, but to be honest plaster is still not very uniform. We were told it could take up to a year for an even finish. Thoughts??
Here are the current numbers:
Free Chlorine 3.0
Total Chlorine 3.0
ph 7.8
Hardness 250 ppm
Alkalinity 95
CYA 85
Copper .1
Phosphate 0
Salt 3560
Total Dissolved solids 100ppm

Sometimes you do need to add some calcium, but there is only minimal need to add any calcium given the numbers you posted. The recommended CH level is from 250 to 350. Assuming Hardness is CH, a fairly common usage, then you are at the low end of the acceptable range. Since CH is still going to go up a little more as the plaster cures, I would leave calcium alone or raise it just a little bit.
