my recirculate valve was working fine at the beginning of the swim season .. nothing coming out of the backwash tube .. a month later I turn it on recirculate and a smaller stream of water comes out of the backwash tube ... and also into the pool ... whats going on?

The spider gasket is leaking. It's not a big problem to change it out. Take it out and take it to the pool store so they can match it up.
