Additives - Do they change the chemistry?

I am wondering about using pool store additives such as things like Pool Perfect and UltraBright.....will these change the pH and alkalinity? Are there benign replacements for items such as these?

As a general rule, you don't want to use things like that unless you have the specific problems they are designed to solve. Many of those products have side effects, things that might be worth it if you really need that product but aren't worth it when using them "just in case". We recommend avoiding everything that you don't specifically need. Only add chemicals if you know what they are, what they do, and why you need them.

Some of them affect other numbers, like PH etc, others don't.
