Initial Testing-Too much salt?

Thanks for everyone's help in getting up and running. Got everything installed fine. Dumped my salt this morning. Waiting the 24-48 hours. Initial test this afternoon came out at 4400ppm and the chlorine fell by half. Am adding chlorine and have got the generator at 100%. I searched pool school but am trying to find links on what initially happens to levels when you first add the salt. Should I immediately dilute the salt level or wait a day? Can someone direct me to links? thx, SR

Wait 24 hours with the pump running and the SWG off before measuring the salt level and turning the SWG on.

Adding salt doesn't affect anything except the salt level and the SWG.
