Water level bucket test

I can’t seem to find the link to how to perform the bucket test to test for a leak.
Can someone post the link?
What I read in Pool School wasn't what I remembered seeing before.

I mean is it really as easy as just putting a bucket on a step and matching the water level and then waiting a few days to see if they are still the same?

Yep.

By setting the bucket on a step you're matching the sun exposure and evaporation of the pool. Mark the level in the bucket with a Sharpie.

How long should I wait for the best idea if I have a problem?

With the bucket being on a step in the pool you will have the same evaporation effect in the bucket as the pool. Both will loose the same amount of water. I don't think there is a set time frame to watch for changes. If you have a small leak you may not notice a difference for a few days between the two. Do you have an auto fill on your pool? If you do make sure it is off while you do the test.

Nope, don't have auto fill unfortunately. it has been extremely hot here in texas the last few weeks so I wouldn't be surprised if it's all evaporation. this is my first summer with this pool so I don't know what is usual.

You can usually tell in 24 hours if it's a leak or evaporation.
