Green sand for sand filters

I see that suppliers, like Leslie's, are promoting 'green sand' for sand filters, apparently like the sand used in home filtration systems to remove metals, etc. Has anyone had any experience with the 'green sand'?

Greensand filters are good for removing iron, though they tend to get expensive. But there would be no point in putting greensand into a pool sand filter. The greensand needs to be replaced frequently and isn't the correct size to be effective at normal filtering. If you are going to use greensand it should be used in a filter designed to work with greensand, where among other things it is much easier to replace the greensand.
